Sustainable fuel technology provider Velocys and Varhad Capital have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop next-generation biomass-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects in India.
Under the agreement, the two companies will combine their expertise to design and engineer scalable SAF facilities using agricultural residues as feedstock. Velocys’ Fischer-Tropsch process will be integrated with Varhad’s gasification platform, which converts agricultural waste into syngas and biochar. The collaboration aims to establish a scalable hub-and-spoke model for SAF production across the country.
The initiative is focused on producing cost-competitive, “Make in India” sustainable aviation fuel with strong lifecycle carbon performance. It is expected to help reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels while supporting the growth of sustainable aviation.
Prasad Dahapute noted that with an existing gasification platform already in operation, the partnership with Velocys will enable a faster transition to fuel production using proven technology aligned with market viability.
Sachin Joshi added that the collaboration brings together two commercially proven technologies to streamline biomass-to-fuel production in India through a technically robust and economically competitive approach.
